The FY16 report provides a comprehensive update on the home furnishing retailer’s approach and impressive performance against the targets set out in its People & Planet Positive (PPP) strategy.
The report, available to download here, is structured around the three change drivers of the PPP strategy:
- A more sustainable and healthier life at home: IKEA has billions of visits to its stores and website each year. It aims to use this influence to enable and inspire people to live a more sustainable life at home, by saving or generating energy, cutting water use, minimising waste or living more healthily.
- Resource and energy independence: IKEA is now more than just a home furnishing retailer, it is also an energy company. It has committed to own and operate 327 wind turbines, and installed 730,000 solar panels on the roofs of its buildings, generating renewable energy equivalent to 71% of its global energy consumption.
- A better life for people and communities: IKEA’s vision, to create a better everyday life for the many people, stretches right through the supply chain. Its code of conduct for suppliers, IWAY, provides a strong framework for working with suppliers and sub-suppliers. And it is partnering with others to create new approaches to working with vulnerable groups including migrants and home-based workers.
